Mike O’Driscoll is Director and co-founder of IMFORMED Industrial Mineral Forums & Research Ltd, established in January 2015, with Ismene Clarke, focused on specific industrial minerals research and conferences including magnesia, fluorspar, salt, refractory minerals, oilfield, logistics, recycling, China, and India. He has over 30 years experience specialising in industrial minerals and markets.
Mike joined the former London-based Industrial Minerals (IM) magazine in 1987, was posted to New York as Associate American Editor 1988-90, before becoming IM’s longest serving Editor 1995-2012. He became Global Head of Research IM in 2012 before leaving in 2014 to pursue a career as an independent expert in industrial minerals.
Mike has researched, written, and devised editorial, event, and research report concepts on all aspects of the industrial minerals mine to market supply chain. He has visited a wide range of mineral supply and end user operations worldwide, meeting senior executives from all key sectors, and has regularly organised, chaired, and presented at many industry conferences.
He was Associate Editor and contributing author to the 7th edition of Industrial Minerals & Rocks, published by the Society for Mining, Metallurgy & Exploration (SME) in 2006; and was Chairman of the SME Short Course on Industrial Minerals Due Diligence, 1999, Denver.
In 2011, he was recipient of the Hal Williams Hardinge Award, from the SME, for services to the industry, in particular owing to his coverage of China.
He holds a BSc in Geography & Geology, and an MSc in Mining Geology from the Camborne School of Mines and is a member of the SME, the Society of Petroleum Engineers, and the Association of Mining Analysts.
